How often should
an office be cleaned?

Most offices need restrooms, kitchens and trash done every day the office is used, floors vacuumed or mopped two to five times a week, and deep floor work every three to twelve months. An office with fewer than ten people can often get by with two or three visits a week.

The right answer is room by room, not one number for the whole building. Here is the schedule we start from when we write a scope.

A starting schedule

Every visit

  • Restrooms cleaned and restocked
  • Kitchen and break room counters, sinks, tables
  • Trash and recycling out
  • Entry glass and door handles
  • High-touch surfaces wiped

Weekly

  • Desks dusted where clear
  • Full vacuum or damp mop of all floors
  • Conference rooms detailed
  • Baseboards spot-cleaned

Monthly to yearly

  • High dusting, vents and ledges (monthly)
  • Interior glass and partitions (monthly)
  • Carpet extraction (quarterly to yearly)
  • Hard floor scrub, strip and finish (yearly)

What changes the schedule

Headcount

More people, more restroom and kitchen use. Past about 25 people, nightly service is usually needed.

Visitors

Lobbies, showrooms and waiting rooms that clients see need to look the same every morning.

Type of space

Medical offices, gyms and childcare need disinfection every day they're open.

Daytime coverage

Busy buildings often add a day porter: someone on site during business hours who keeps restrooms stocked, lobbies tidy and spills handled, on top of the nightly clean.

Related questions

Is weekly office cleaning enough?

For a small office of a few people, often yes, with someone on staff handling trash and the kitchen between visits. Once restrooms and kitchens see daily use by more than about ten people, two or more visits a week keep them from falling behind.

How often should office carpets be cleaned?

Vacuum high-traffic areas at every visit and the rest weekly. Hot-water extraction every three to twelve months depending on traffic, more often at entries and break rooms.

We walk the building, write every room and frequency down, and send the price within a few days of the visit. No contract to read yet. Just a visit.
